THANKSGIVING FOOD DISTRIBUTION
Throughout the pandemic, food insecurity increased dramatically, as more parents struggle to feed their children.
Thanksgiving is typically one of the yearly peaks in demand for food banks around the country and the Coronavirus placed an even larger burden on food banks who have been struck by shortages of both donated food and volunteer workers. Our community needed our help.
Soho Youth Club teamed up with Long Island’s leading food bank, Island Harvest, in order to present our first-ever Thanksgiving Food Drive. Our team distributed a variety of fresh produce to the young students and families of the Wyandanch School District. Our distribution occurred Tuesday, November 24th, 2020 at both Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School and Wyandanch Memorial High School. We were able to supply 20,000 pounds of fresh produce in order to provide meals for 500 families.
